Dee Edwards “Why Can’t There Be Love”
deeedwards pic01 Dee Edwards “Why Can’t There Be Love” This is one of my favorite Detroit jams of all time. It was originally released as a 7″ single on Guido Marasco‘s Bump Shop imprint. I have two copies of the vinyl that Brad Hales laced me with at People’s Records in Detroit. I always find myself reciting Dee Edwards’ lovable lyrics to myself. This is one of those records that sounds like it SHOULD have been on Motown, but it was just some Detroit flavor.

Gilles Peterson recently unearthed the classic Dee Edwards record for his Digs America Volume II compilation. Ubiquity Records released it has a 12″ vinyl with an additional re-edit from French producer Pilooski. The track appeared in a recent Addidas Original commercial (watch it here). The vinyl is limited to 500 copies (which Ubiquity appears to have sold out of) and it is also available digitally.
