Exile goes back to his rapping roots on for his new album, 4Trk Mind. After years as a driving force for Los Angeles’ hip-hop scene producing highly touted albums for both Blu and Fashawn along with his group Emanon (that also included Aloe Blacc), Exile has been able infiltrate the majors by producing for the likes of Mobb Deep and Big Sean. Exile has made rhyming appearances on many of his main production projects before, but 4Trk Mind marks his first self-produced rap album for himself. With the new album, it’s an autobiographical journey into the life and mind of Exile mixed in with the psychedelia silliness reminiscent to Madlib’s Quasimoto.
Exile just got back home to west coast life after doing a couple of shows in Toronto and Montreal with Blu when I was able to steal him for a little while to chat over the phone for this latest Loopcast interview. “The diarrhea is in your hands,” jokes emcee/producer Exile on whether or not to keep an eventful visit to Detroit’s Lafayette Coney Island off the record during our recent interview. Needless to say, I kept in it. It’s funny.
