J1 has become a staple of the Los Angels hip-hop scene, but he’ll always represent the Midwest. Originally hailing from Cleveland, J1 (aka The Deer) grew up a bit of bad kid but through music was able to fine his way. Currently the drummer in Dam-Funk‘s Master Blazter band, J1 has been able to tour the globe and experience cultures beyond his Midwestern upbringing.

Outside of his Master Blazter duties, J1 has worked on his own projects, curating a pair of compilations titled Starship 27 for (iN)Sect Records along with recently dropping a new beat EP Lucky Seven and a reggae 45s mix titled Tune In!. Recently, The Loop Detroit was able to catch up with J1 before he hit the road on his current tour with Dam-Funk & Master Blazter.
