about header1
The Loop Detroit is a web site dedicated to the music of the Detroit and the people that keep the movement going. It was founded in March 2001 by Kelly “K-Fresh” Frazier under the name Renaissance Soul Detroit, and was originally an unofficial site devoted to the works of famed Detroit emcee/producer Jay Dee aka J. Dilla. Renaissance Soul Detroit was the first site to compile a legitimate discography of J. Dilla’s emcee and production work, and that listing would soon be used on Stones Throw Records’ web site.

As time passed, the focus of Renaissance Soul Detroit (housed at Rensoul.com) expanded to all things Detroit hip-hop, along with elements of the electronic, house, and soul music scenes within the city. It acted as a hub for people around the world to get a taste of what Detroit urban music was really about.

As the years went by and the Detroit music scene as a whole began to evolve in many ways, the web site needed to evolve too. It was time for a new beginning. In May 2010, The Loop Detroit was born taking where Renaissance Soul Detroit left off, and emerging with the times. While Renaissance Soul Detroit launched as specifically a Detroit hip-hop site, The Loop Detroit’s focus has grown to include hip-hop, indie rock, funk, soul, and electronic music from our great city.

The new focus with The Loop Detroit covers a wide range of our city’s music scene, concentrating on Detroit artists and musicians making cutting edge groundbreaking music while keeping the legacies alive of Detroit’s past pioneers. The content of The Loop Detroit serves quality over quantity, upholding a standard of excellence that has made Detroit music globally successful.
